Left Blames Law-Abiding Gun Owners While Ignoring Proven School Safety Solutions in Utah
In the wake of the recent and heartbreaking school shooting, our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and the entire community. The loss of innocent lives is a tragedy beyond words, and as we grieve, it is crucial to remain focused on the truth: criminals and murderers are to blame for these horrific acts, not guns, not the NRA, and certainly not law-abiding gun owners. These tragedies highlight the need for responsible citizens who are prepared to defend, not punish those who respect the Second Amendment and exercise their rights responsibly.
Time and again, the Left seizes moments of grief to push for radical gun control, trying to shame gun owners into believing they are the problem. But responsible gun owners are more likely to be defenders in these situations, not perpetrators. When violence strikes, it is often the presence of a trained, armed individual who can stop the threat and protect the innocent. It’s important to ask: where are these defenders when schools are targeted by criminals?
In Utah, we’ve taken strong, proactive steps to enhance school safety while preserving our freedoms. Every school is now required to have an armed security presence, whether it’s a resource officer, an armed guard, or a trained school employee who can respond immediately to threats. Volunteer armed guards are now permitted to work alongside these professionals, providing an additional layer of security. Teachers are also being incentivized to carry concealed firearms, with proper training, to ensure that there are more responsible defenders ready to act in a crisis.
Additionally, significant funding has been allocated to upgrade school security infrastructure, including the installation of panic buttons in classrooms to alert law enforcement more quickly in an emergency. These measures reflect a serious commitment to both prevention and rapid response, ensuring our children and teachers are protected without infringing on the rights of law-abiding citizens.
The real solution to these tragedies lies not in blaming guns or taking away the rights of responsible gun owners, but in continuing to secure our schools and empower those who can defend them. Utah has shown that we can do both, and we should remain focused on real solutions, not misguided rhetoric.
